With a waterfront venue and classic blue as the color of choice for a chic, modern wedding, it can be a bit of a challenge to avoid a nautical theme. But Natalie from Designed Perfectly Events pulled it off to smashing success for Fallon and Anders’ wedding last July at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, and I was honored to capture all of the intricate details in her beautifully curated images.
Natalie Seng of Designed Perfectly Events & Design used Pantone’s color of the year as inspiration, in part because it was a favorite color for the bride and her mother, who helped with a lot of the legwork since her daughter was out of state.
Constancy and confidence are the emotions evoked by the lovely Classic Blue that Pantone chose as their color of the year for 2020. It’s timeless, simple and elegant – the perfect color for weddings, and since it’s somewhat neutral, this tone is easy to compliment for sophisticated effect.
The oceanfront Chesapeake Bay Beach Club venue also lent itself to some aspects of the design. Natalie used hand painted oyster shells decorated with octopuses and elegant silver trim by K Crook Design, subtle reception decor such as a tablecloth with a pattern reminiscent of sand dollars for the head table, and a lovely shiplap escort wall built by A2Z Music Factory, decked with ombre color cards and luxuriously textured floral arrangements. These and other features lightly touched on the seaside setting for the wedding, adding sophisticated charm and romantic ambiance.
From magnificent floral arrangements for the chuppah, ceremony and reception by White Magnolia Designs, to elegantly simple invitations, ombre colored cards for the escort wall and a laser-cut monogram logo by Artisan Matchmaker, this wedding was styled down to each lovely detail. The logo even made an appearance on the cake, which was made by Blue Lace Cakes.
All of the vendors went to the next level for this wedding, adding extra touches to make this day even more special for the bride and groom. Not only did Sue from White Magnolia Designs go above and beyond with the arrangements for the ceremony and reception, she created a beautiful piece for the chair that would have been occupied by the mother of the groom, who had passed away. A single white rose was replaced by a stunning arrangement to honor her memory. Sue also hand painted, cut and addressed the boutonniere name tags in calligraphy, and added watercolor for another level of exceptional detail.
Natalie was thrilled that they were able to reuse the chuppah for the ceremony and reception, although it took a lot of helping hands including the DJ team from A2Z Music Factory to help move. A2Z Music Factory also did the draping and enhanced lighting for the ceremony and reception spaces, and built the shiplap wall to provide a nice oceanside element with blue colored cards in a double-ombre effect with the ombre flower garden from White Magnolia Designs.
For the reception linens and napkins, Natalie partnered with Party Tables, an online company based in North Carolina. She and the mother of the bride knew that they wanted to use the blue patterned tablecloths for the reception tables, and it took awhile to find the right place settings for the somewhat busy pattern on the linen. Party Tables shipped Natalie several rounds of samples to help them see how things would look, and even sent mini sample sizes, which were a lot more manageable for presenting the flatlays for the detail shots. It was a challenge to find the right chargers as well, and two options were used from Party Rental Ltd. – one for the head table and another for the guests’ place settings, since the linens they used were different to create subtle contrast.
This wedding was 18 months in the making, with lots of detail and planning to make it oh-so chic and timeless.
